How to Transplant Tomatoes for Patio Pots

Tips on timing, watering, feeding, and supports so your potted tomatoes are heavy producers. Also, check out the companion video for transplanting seedlings.

  1. Usually, start seeds 8-9 weeks before last frost date
  2. Pots dry out quickly. Water regularly and increase the water as temps rise and your plant grows. Usually 1 gallon per week for young plants and 2-3 gallons per week for mature plants in hot weather.
  3. Feed regularly with Liquid Tomato Feed.  We use Neptune’s Harvest.  Use a dilute solution at every 3-4th watering.
  4. Remember to harden off seedlings before placing them in direct sunlight all day.
